Dad or Mom?

As a child I always hated this question: “Who do you love more, your dad or your mom?” “Your sister or your brother?” I always said, “Why do I have to choose one?” Then, fifteen years ago, life forced me to choose. But this time it wasn’t between the two people dearest to me. It was between staying beside them in Iran and perhaps longing forever to kiss their hands… You ask why. “Well, why did you leave?” That’s another question I hate. Migration may be a solution, but it isn’t easy. It may take you away from one kind of pain, but it brings another. I hope the day comes when it isn’t too late to kiss my mother’s and father’s hands.
