How were Islamic ideology and the thinking of 1979 planted in so many minds? How did a little-known cleric named Khomeini emerge from obscurity and come to be presented to the public almost as a saint? How did a promised life of poverty here, in exchange for luxury in an unseen paradise, come to be valued above the visible comfort and growth of the Pahlavi years? To me, the answer is simple: The BBC. In my view, that network played no smaller a part than Khomeini and Khamenei in the betrayal of 1979 and the decades of darkness under the Islamic Republic. Its role was significant. Other networks, including Iran International, fill what I see as the gaps and blind spots, smoothing the way for the Islamic Republic to survive, whether in its present form or under a new skin and a false promise of reform. #بی_بی_سی_گوه_خورد
